Yes i am in the last region to switch over.
Believe it was mentioned on here before, but for anyone curious and not seen it the Coalfield has an article up regarding the issue of AT&T service in Buchanan and D ickenson Counties and that there will be none there with the towers there being owned by Verizon and Appalachian Wireless.
When I put in a Buchanan or D ickenson zip code on the Alltel website it still goes to the page about the AT&T merger and the divestiture map still shows both counties shaded for AT&T too. Did something go wrong and AT&T not taking them now or what? Sure would like to see the full article and the release from AT&T about this.
The article is basically Alltel had a romaing agreement with Verizon & Appalachian wireless on their CDMA towers, AT&T runs on GSM band which is incompatable for roaming. They will either have to come up with a lease agreement and install hardware on those towers or build new ones, issue I would and others should have is does this violate the monopoly agreement in the sale.
The only person who might know is Rick Boucher, I called his office and left a message wanting to know secretary said they had been numerous calls and he was lookinginto it before he left office in Jan, I called Senator Webbs office to ask Mr Griffith's POV of helping with issue and the lady was like where is ****enson County? I just said this figure's when someone from Roanoke doesn't know who they represent.
Hmm so basically the Alltel customers are still going to be going to AT&T, but there won't be any AT&T service up there because Alltel didn't actually own the towers they were using and AT&T can't switch them over to their network? Wonder if AT&T has any plans to build towers up there?
Also today is the day that the phones were originally supposed to ship. Has anyone received any shipping info yet? The first markets to ship had their phones ship a few days after the expected ship date though so I wouldn't be surprised if they shipped a few days late here too.
AT&T did buy that region. The little glitch there was Alltel didn't have any towers there - all the service came from shared tower agreements (which wont work on AT&T phones).
They could resolve it by simply putting in some towers (and retaining a lot of customers in the process) but it doesn't sound like they're doing that anytime soon.
Buddy of mine said he got an email this morning saying "THank you for purchasing your new Blackberry". It was from Blackberry though and not ATT. So I am guessing they have already got the new phone for him and it will ship soon.
Anybody receive any notification through AT&T today???? I still haven't received an email cofirmation. I checked my order status online this morning and it still just said processing.
